OVERVIEW ::
Check out Blue Note's first 45 in over twenty years! A true colector's item, there are only going to be a limited amount sold in the store. Side A: Madlib, Side B: Medina...ouch!
In 2003, Madlib landed the gig of a lifetime by invading the Blue Note vaults and turning some of the most important jazz recordings of all time inside out. Taking a break from his own projects (Yesterday's New Quintet and Quasimoto), Madlib took a stab at a remixer's dream by tackling some of the most treasured songs in jazz history under the blessing of Blue Note Records. They opened their vaults to the man, the myth, the one they call Madlib, and the result was Shades Of Blue: Madlib Invades Blue Note, one of the most critically-acclaimed and best-selling albums of 2003 in both the jazz and indie hip hop worlds. On this limited edition seven-inch 45, you'll hear Madlib's second stab at reworking the Donald Byrd, Mizell Brothers era-classic "Stepping Into Tomorrow," which cannot be found on the CD or LP version of Shades Of Blue.
Spin doctor-cum-provocateur Rich Medina, the globally-renowned DJ, poet, and producer, whets appetites with "Mindgames," the first offering from his forthcoming debut album. Replete with jazz-fueled textures, melodic keyboard sweeps and lush, loungy overtones, Medina's "Mindgames" follows on the heels of impressive collaborations with a heady list of musical innovators that includes Phil Asher and Nathan Haines, DJ Spinna, Zap Mama, King Britt, and DJ Mitsu The Beats.
